Old Tractors and Gas Engines

Condition is everything, whether restoring an old John Deere, Oil Pull or Fairbanks Morse.

Restoration is all about preserving the past for future generations. It should be no surprise, then, that the Smithsonian Institution does not allow sandblasting or the wire-brushing of its antiquities. Rustbeeter™ enables a collector to remove rust, yet retain the integrity of the metal parts.

A byproduct of the sugar beet-refining process, Rustbeeter™ seeks out iron oxide (rust) from steel and cast iron. Unlike sandblasting, bead blasting, wire brushing or treating with acids or caustics, Rustbeeter™ will not degrade the base metal.

You should know...

  • Rustbeeter™ will not remove paint that is properly adhered to the metal. However, most paint has rust beneath it and Rustbeeter™ will remove the rust and float the paint.
  • Sandblasting and wire brushing destroy the manufacturing details on old tractors and engines. The casting markings become quite rounded and worn and sheet metal parts are warped by abrasive process. All abrasive processes deteriorate or alter the surface of the metal, thus compromising its historical value.
  • Rustbeeter™ seeps into nooks and crannies where other processes are unable to reach, and also removes rust from deeply pitted parts.
  • Some collectors do not believe in restoring a project to factory "new" condition rather, they prefer to retain the original surface in its deteriorated, rusty condition. We at Rustbeeter™ believe that removing half the rust and corrosion is preferable for preservation of the artifact. Heavy corrosion traps moisture and will continue to rust beneath the surface. Removing half the rust and then treating the remaining surface with wax or oils should halt further deterioration.
  • Sometimes the original painted surface is obscured by the rust, and removing half the rust will reveal the original paint. Rustbeeter™ will not remove paint that is properly adhered. However, most paint has rust beneath it and Rustbeeter™ will remove the rust and float the paint. The paint that remains might not need to be removed, for it protects the original surface just as it did when the part was first manufactured.
  • Since Rustbeeter™ is a food product, it is safe to use, safe to handle and poses no health issues. It is much less expensive than many other commercial products and processes and is a great deal less time consuming than sandblasting and wire brushing.
